all-star hoop tryouts set for Sunday

Southern Oregon Selects will hold summer all-star basketball tryouts at — p.m. Sunday at North Medford High.

Girls enrolled in high school next year are eligible. The team is scheduled to play in 64-team tournaments in Las Vegas and San Francisco during July.

Cost for the tryout is $10. For information, call Mike Kay (773-7955) or John Thomas (779-2021).

77 leaves her in tie for 17th place

Tara Staal of Medford shot a 5-over-par round of 77 Monday and is in a six-way tie for 17th place in the Antelope Hills Women's Golf Classic.

The Players West Golf Tour, Inc., event is being played at Antelope Hills Golf Course in Prescott, Ariz.

Three players -- Heidi Voorhees, Katy Becker and Alicia Allison -- share the lead at 71.

Rock Soccer sign-ups are under way

Table Rock Soccer Club will accept registrations for Fall 1999 recreational teams through June 30.

Forms are available at schools in Central Point, Eagle Point, White City, Gold Hill and Sams Valley; libraries in Central Point, Eagle Point and White City; and at the Rogue Valley Soccer Shop and Cascade Athletic.

The fall schedule runs Sept. 11 through Nov. 9. The fee is $30 for fall play and $50 for fall and spring.

wins senior golf event with a 71

Bill Murphy shot 71 to win low gross in the first flight of the Super Seniors individual stroke play tournament at StoneRidge Golf Course Monday.

Runner-up Fred Lennard finished six strokes back.

Ted Thompson's net 67 gave him first place in the first flight.

In the second flight, Don Thomas won low gross with an 83 and Frank Gleich won low net at 67.

The next Super Seniors tournament is June 21.

, Marshall, Snow Huston win tourney

The Phoenix High School marketing and achievement class held its first annual Spring Swing Golf Tournament at Quail Point Golf Course on Sunday.

Fred Paul, Scott Marshall, Rick Snow and Jon Huston placed first with a 63 in the four-man, best-ball scramble.

Second place went to Greg Jacobs, Tyler Pendergast, Bert Wilberger and Brad Morris, who finished with a 64. Terry Rombach, Steve Whichard, John Barlow and Eric Sindelar finished third, also with a 64.

Jacobs claimed long-drive honors, while Paul won the closest-to-the-pin hole.
