Bulldogs win two title bouts
LYNNWOOD, Wash. -- Medford's Bulldog Boxing Club won two championships Saturday at the Pacific Northwest Region Junior Olympic Championships.
Boone Wyatt and Alex Trujillo captured titles, while Imanuel Luviano was defeated in 13-14-year-old bouts during the four-state competition.
Wyatt, who's ranked No. 2 in the nation at 100 pounds, stopped Tim Wadsworth of Idaho in the second round of a 112-pound match. Wyatt improved his record to 32-3.
Trujillo defeated Rafael Martinez of Idaho in a 125-pound match.
The 13-14-year-old division does not advance any further.
The Bulldogs also won three match bouts that were not part of the official championships. The victorious boxers were Javier Torrez (10-11, 100 pounds), Moises Rodriguez (9-10, 70 pounds) and Clancy Finchum (14-15, 119 pounds).
Ricky Gallegos (132) and Mike Wilson (super heavyweight) will attempt to advance to the national championships with bouts today in the 15-16-year-old divisions.
Wilson was a runner-up in last year's national championships.
The White City Cougars Boxing Club has two 15-16-year-old boxers -- Steve Vosberg (125) and Homero Gonzalez (147) -- trying to reach nationals today.
The National Junior Olympic Championships take place in Marquette, Mich., June 20-28.
