earns NAIA scholar-athlete honor

George Fox University hurdler Karrie Kiester, a South Medford graduate, has been named an NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete.

Kiester competed at the NAIA national meet in both the 100-meter hurdles and the 400 hurdles. She advanced to the semifinals in 100 hurdles and ran in the 400 hurdle preliminaries.

Kiester's personal bests of 1:04.13 in the 400 hurdles and 14.89 in the 100 hurdles are both No. — all-time at George Fox.

Kiester is a biology major with a 3.67 grade-point average.

walk/run scheduled June 29

The second-annual Nancy Peterson Walk/Run will be June 29. The run is in memory of the late state representative.

There's a 1-mile walk, 3-mile walk or run and 6-mile run. The races start at Ashland Community Food Store and end at the adjacent Valley of the Rogue Bank.

The run begins at 8:30 a.m. with registration an hour earlier. Entry fees are $10 ($12 for families) and five dollars more on race day.

volleyball camp set for June 15-18

The Black Tornado Volleyball Skills and Competition Camp runs June 15-18 at North Medford High.

The camp is for girls in grades four through eight. Sessions are 1:30-4:30 p.m. daily. The cost is $60. For information call Ron Beick at 776-8726, ext. 159.
