State gains win in final softball test
SALEM -- Metro's bats ruled the weekend in the Class 4A State-Metro softball series, featuring Oregon's top seniors, at Wallace Marine Park.
On Friday, Metro swept the State 10-5 and 13-7, then on Saturday the State rallied for a 7-0 win after dropping an 11-3 opener.
We gave up some awful big innings, said North Medford's Larry Binney, the State coach.
McNary pitcher Nicole Ivie, who had been sidelined with an arm injury, helped reverse the State's fortunes in the final game.
North Medford's Megumi Hackett and Brynen Guthrie of Roseburg were both 2-for-3 and scored a run apiece in the win.
In State's lone victory, North Medford's Steph Adams was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Crater's Laura Bower was 2-for-2 and scored a run, and Ashland's Gracie Rowland-Dunn was 1-for-1, driving in a run.
During the weekend series: North's Kylie Allen and Hackett were 4-for-7; Adams was 3-for-5, including a two-run home run Friday night; North's Jenny Close was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple; Rowland-Dunn was 2-for-5, Bowers was 3-for-7. and Guthrie was 4-for-9.
Also participating were North's Erin Glantz, Crater's Val Lammon, Kelly Fullerton of Roseburg and Becky Heater of Grants Pass.
