Comets in final eight at tourney
OREGON CITY -- The Crater High girls basketball team has advanced to the final eight of the 64-team End of the Trail Basketball Tournament at Oregon City High School.
The Comets romped past Federal Way, Wash., 72-53 in their opening game Thursday, then knocked off two of the top teams in Washington state Friday. The Comets edged two-time defending Class 4A state champion Prairie High 42-40 and defending Class 1A state champion Lynden Christian 34-33.
Crater now meets the winner of a game between Oregon City and Lathrop, Alaska, at 6:15 p.m. today.
Junior post Jody McLeod and sophomore guards Sarah Yager and Sarah Pool, a transfer from Bend, have led the Comets.
The tournament features many of the top high school girls teams on the West Coast.
