North Jackson pulls even with Roseburg

ROSEBURG

-- The North Jackson Royals got even with Roseburg Pepsi in the best of three American Legion Area 4 A playoff series with a 13-12 win on the road.

After losing the first game at home, 5-4, North Jackson (33-8) stepped up the intensity to pull out a clutch win, sending the series back to Eagle Point for the third and deciding game.

After giving up a run in the first inning, the Royals came back to add six runs of their own in the second. Jake Kleker led off the inning with a base hit and scored three batters later after Roseburg hit a batter. Evan Pogue followed with an RBI single to give North Jackson a 3-1 lead. Mike Newmann provided the big blast of the inning with a three-run shot to put the Royals up by five.

However, Roseburg would not go away as they scored nine runs in the next four innings to take a 10-9 lead into the sixth.

Pepsi threatened to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, but the Royals gunned down Chip Southerland on a relay throw from the outfield to seal the victory.

B.J. McFall had a 3-for-4 performance, while Kleker chipped in with a 3-for-5 showing. Pogue had two hits for the Royals who face Roseburg in the third and deciding game in Eagle Point today at 7 p.m.

BEND 5, MEDFORD NATIONALS 1-- At Portland, Cory Kasparobitch held Medford to a pair of hits, while adding a solo home run to pull Bend past the Nationals in the State Baseball Tournament at Park Rose.

The Medford Nationals (11-12 year-old division) face the Medford Americans at 12:30 p.m. today at Park Rose.
