Lucas' four goals spur Eagles' win
COOS BAY-- Stephanie Lucas scored four second-half goals to lift Eagle Point to a 5-1 non-conference girls soccer triumph over Marshfield.
The match was the season opener for both teams.
Lucas, last season's player of the year in the Southern Oregon Conference, now has 65 career goals.
Neither team was able to get on the scoreboard in the first half, but Lucas broke the stalemate 11 minutes into the second half on an assist from Karyn Fendler. A minute later, Lucas scored an unassisted goal.
Marhsfield pulled with in 2-1 25 minutes into the second half on a penalty kick, but Lucas tallied twice more and freshman Jenna Bilden once for the comfortable win.
Lucas, Bilden and Keila Kruis all had assists for the Eagles.
Eagle Point outshot the Pirates 26-7 but also was buoyed by Necia Wilkinson's strong midfield defense and fine play from Tiffany Cherry in goal.
