Dobson, Lindgren pace Pelicans in SOC four-way

CROSS COUNTRY

GRANTS PASS-- Klamath Union's boys and Crater's girls each looked strong in a four-way cross country meet Thursday to kick off the Southern Oregon Conference season.

Ian Dobson's first-place time of 16:02 helped the Pelican boys ran away with the top spot, finishing 38 points ahead of Grants Pass. South Medford came in third, followed by Crater.

Klamath Union snared four of the five fastest times, with South Medford's Perry Custance breaking up the Pelican run by finishing second at 16:33 in the 5-kilometer event.

The Crater girls team edged Klamath Union by six points in claiming first place, followed by South Medford and Grants Pass.

Klamath Union's Liz Lindgren posted the top girls mark at 20:17, with Crater's Janelle Goeres taking second at 21:12.

ASHLAND SWEEPS FOUR-WAY-- At Roseburg, Ashland's girls posted a perfect score, winning the first five places, while the Grizzlies boys had five of the top nine runners to complete the team victory sweep against North Medford, Eagle Point and Roseburg.

Anita Sindelar paced the Ashland girls with a winning time of 20:30. The Grizzlies' performance was all the more impressive because they were without they're No. — runner Paris Edwards, who was suffering from the flu.

Robbie Nutter of Eagle Point won the boys race with a mark of 16:29. Nutter broke away from a pack that included runner-up Nick Fikes of Ashland.
