North Medford takes fifth in Adidas tourney

TIGARD-- North Medford won three matches and finished in a tie for fifth place Saturday in the Adidas Varsity Challenge Volleyball Tournament.

In pool play, North defeated Southern Oregon Conference rival Klamath Union, 15-11 and 15-13. North's Kendra Mitchell had eight digs and six kills, while Helen Williams added five kills and three blocks against the Pelicans.

Also in pool play, the Black Tornado downed Clackamas 15-7 and 15-2 behind Kara Hwang's four kills and seven digs.

Chaley Higgins had three kills and two blocks and Candace Fleener contributed three kills as North finished pool action with a 15-7 and 15-6 victory over Bend.

In the gold division quarterfinals, North lost to Gresham 15-7 and 15-11 and ended the tournament in tie for fifth at 3-1.

In North's final match, Jill Carrigan produced five kills, Williams had three kills and four blocks and Hwang had four kills.

HOSANNA CHRISTIAN 15-16, PROSPECT 7-14-- At Klamath Falls, the loss dropped Prospect to 1-1 in Skyline A League South Division action.

The Cougars were led in the back row by senior Jessica Kraemer and Addie Stockebrand with 10 digs each.

Stockebrand added six aces and senior middle Kary Lenderman contributed a team-high five kills.

CHILOQUIN TOURNAMENT-- At Chiloquin, Butte Falls received a No. 4 seed after the five-team round-robin portion of the tournament, but lost two straight in championship play.

In the round robin, the Loggers lost two games to Chiloquin, defeated Glendale twice, lost twice to the Henley junior varsity and split two games with Gilchrist.

Butte Falls lost to third-seeded Gilchist 15-7, 6-15, 15-12. The Loggers led Chiloquin 14-6 in a loser's bracket game, but the Antlers ran off 10 straight to win the game.

Chiloquin eliminated the Loggers from the tournament with a 15-7 second-game win.

Butte Falls senior outside hitter Sara Lawrence had team highs in the tournament with digs (29) and aces (10), while Elizabeth McLauchlan led the squad with 16 kills.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN TRIUMPHS--At Central Point, Christine McCandless had 14 kills, Kelly Clarke added 11 kills and Marisha McDonald came off the bench to serve nine points as Cascade Christian completed a non-league sweep of Umpqua Valley Christian with a 15-4, 8-15, 16-14 victory at Scenic Middle School.

The Challengers won the first match 15-10, 13-15, 15-6 behind nine service aces from Clarke.

Cascade Christian improved its record to 3-1.
