Ashland boys, girls add to elite status with four-way win

PREP CROSS COUNTRY

If the Grizzlies were trying to lay low, Thursday's effort eliminated all hopes of that tactic.

Ashland did nothing to take the big target off its back in sweeping the boys and girls competitions in a four-way Southern Oregon Conference cross country meet at Bear Creek Park.

The Grizzlies girls were especially impressive, with Paris Edwards easily taking first at 18 minutes, 59 seconds. Ashland's Jessica Stowell (20:11) and Anita Sindelar (20:27) finished third and fourth, respectively.

The Grizzlies posted six of the top-10 marks to distance themselves from South Medford in the girls competition.

The Ashland girls team is just ferocious, said North Medford coach Bryan Gregg. They're really loaded this year. It's going to take one heck of a team to knock them off this year.

South Medford's Perry Custance edged Ashland's Nick Fikes for first in the boys race, but the Grizz earned the ultimate revenge as Ashland topped South Medford by one point in the team standings.
