The Alan Holmes Scholarship Golf Tournament is Saturday at noon at the Rogue Valley Country Club.

The event, open to men and women, is a two-person scramble. There are prizes in gross and net divisions.

Entry fee is $75 per person, and includes dinner. Entry forms are available at local golf courses.

The tourney is held each year to raise money for the Alan Holmes Scholarship Fund. In eight years, the fund has grown to more than $80,000. It has awarded nine college scholarships valued at $8,500 for this school year.

The weekly Oregon Duck Club noon luncheon will be held Wednesday at J.J. North's Grand Buffet.

University of Oregon football offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jeff Tedford will be the guest via speakerphone.

Cost of the lunch is $7.25.

— — Basketball — shooting sessions start today

A series of basketball shooting classes gets under way starting today at Orchard Hill Elementary School in Medford.

The classes are taught by local shooting coach David Flood.

Elementary school players meet from 4-5 p.m., middle school players from 5-6 p.m. and high school players and adults from 6-7 p.m.

Cost is $7 per session or $30 for a five-week session. A 10-week session is available for $50. The classes run every Tuesday.

Sign-ups are under way for winter 5-on-5 basketball at Superior Gym and Fitness.

Play begins Nov. 28.

Leagues will be held in upper, lower, recreational and 40-and-over divisions.

Games will be played on Sundays and Wednesdays for the upper league, Sundays and Mondays for the lower and recreational leagues and Wednesdays and Thursdays for the 40-and-over league.

Superior members don't have to pay fees. The cost to non-members is $36 per player.
