claims four golds at nationals

Dan Bulkley of Phoenix won four gold medals, a silver and a bronze at the 1999 National Senior Games at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex near Orlando, Fla.

Bulkley, competing in the men's 80-84 age group, won gold in the 800 meters, high jump, badminton singles and badminton mixed doubles. Bulkey finished second in the 1,500 and took third in the javelin.

Michelle Marquis of Medford and Marty Burns of Ashland teamed up to win the silver medal in the 50-54 badminton mixed doubles.

records ace at Stewart Meadows

Jeremy Taylor of Medford recorded a hole-in-one Sunday at Stewart Meadows Golf Course.

Taylor, who has played for only — months, aced the 153-yard seventh hole with a 6-iron.

The shot was witnessed by David Jones, also of Medford.

meeting at different site Friday

The Medford Linebackers meeting at noon Friday will be at the Colony Far East restaurant, 236 N. Front St., this week.

It is being moved from its regular venue, J.J. North's Grand Buffet, due to maintenance work at the latter.

High school football coaches Rod Rumrey of North Medford, Andy Maurer of Cascade Christian and Dick Maurer of St. Mary's will speak.

Cost of the lunch is $8.

winter sports meeting set next week

A winter sports meeting for Ashland High School coaches, participants and parents will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the school's large gym.

The booster club president will be introduced, and the school trainer will talk about services available.

Following a general meeting, each head coach will meet with players and parents in that coach's sport.

Valley hoops officials to meet Nov. 4

The first meeting of the Rogue Valley Basketball Officials Association will be Nov. 4 at McLoughlin Middle School.

First- and second-year officials and transfer officials meet at 6 p.m. All others are to be at a general session at 7 p.m.

Officials should bring their availability information.

Packets cost $40 for those who didn't officiate a fall sport, $32 for those who did.

Ashland holds sale on mountain passes

Ashland is holding a preseason ski and snowboard season-pass sale for the 1999-2000 year.

From now until Nov. 14, almost all categories of season ski passes will sell at a $50 discount.

In order to receive the discount, completed season-pass applications with payment must be received by Nov. 14. After that, individual season passes will increase $50 per category.

Applications for season passes are available at all Rogue Valley ski and snowboard shops, at the Ski Ashland office in downtown Ashland and on the internet at — .

The Ski Ashland season is slated to open Nov. 24, depending on snow conditions.

Aquatic swim team wins Invitational

The Superior Aquatics 12-under swimmers won the second annual Shakespeare Invitational at the Southern Oregon University pool in Ashland Friday through Sunday.

Fifteen teams and 351 swimmers competed.

For Superior, Jason Slowey finished first in three events in the 10-under boys division, while Jamie Buckley and Brittany Miller each captured two firsts in 8-under girls.

Slowey took first in the 100 and 200 freestyles and the 200 individual medley. He also finished second in the breaststroke and third in the 100 intermediate.

Buckley won the 50 backstroke and 25 freestyle, while Miller finished on top in the 50 freestyle and butterfly.

Dairian Wallis of Superior won the 11-12-year-old girls 200 freestyle.
