McCandless ignites Challengers

Girls prep basketball

GLENDALE

-- Senior forward Christina McCandless scored six of her game-high 16 points in the fourth quarter, including the go-ahead basket inside the final four minutes Friday night, as Cascade Christian defeated Glendale, 40-31, in non-league girls basketball.

The intensity level was pretty high and the shooting percentage for both teams suffered, said Cascade coach Loren King. It was basically a defensive player's game.

The teams battled back and forth until the Challengers (3-1) sealed it by hitting 7-of-13 free throws in the late going.

We were taking the ball hard to the basket right at the end, King said.

Kelly Clarke added nine points for the Challengers, while Janelle Conley, Lindsey Bostwick and Katie Longan had excellent defensive outings.
