Westview too much for Crater, 57-28

BEAVERTON-- Third-ranked Westview High of Beaverton limited Crater to 23 percent shooting Tuesday night in routing the Comets, 57-28, in the first round of the Holiday Hoopfest girls basketball tournament.

Crater fell to 1-1 in the tournament.

I expected a tough game, but I didn't know we would come out as scared as we did, said Crater coach David Heard. We're young, and we never played a team this big and this intimidating before. We played pretty tentatively.

Westview center Kim Braxton, a 6-foot-5 senior, scored 13 points, and her defensive presence in the middle forced Crater's offense outside.

Braxton combined with her younger sister, 6-foot-2 Kim Braxton, to clog the middle of the lane and make it almost impossible for the Comets to work the ball inside and score.

With Kara Braxton, we couldn't get any shots off, said Heard. She's too big. She could play in the WNBA right now.

I didn't think defensively she was going to cause us any problems, said Heard. She forced us outside and we couldn't score. No second opportunities, no second chances and no offensive board opportunities.

Westview outscored Crater 17-7 in the fourth quarter to cruise to the win.

Point guard Sarah Pool and forward Amy Denson both scored nine points to lead Crater.

Braxton had seven rebounds and six blocked shots to go with her 13 points.
