Beasly's last

Beasly's last-second layup sinks Cascade —

Prep boys basketball

CENTRAL POINT-- Cascade Christian appeared poised to knock off defending Southern Cascade League boys basketball champion Lost River in the conference opener at Scenic Middle School on Saturday. —

— The Challengers held a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter, but suddenly Cascade's shooting touch disappeared. —

— The Raiders seized the momentum and Eric Beasly's game-winning shot with four seconds remaining capped the comeback as Lost River escaped with a 47-45 victory. —

— Our lead started dwindling and we couldn't score, said Cascade Christian coach Brian Morse, whose team was 1-for-14 from the field in the final period. We totally went flat in the fourth quarter. —

— Lost River took its first lead of the game with 45 seconds left when Bogdan Vasio converted off an offensive rebound. —

— Don Jenkins was fouled with 13 seconds left and made both ends of his 1-and-1 to pull the Challengers into a tie at 45. —

— Then Beasly took the inbounds pass, dribbled the length of the floor and sank a reverse layup for the game-winning shot. —

— The big difference in the game was the offensive rebounds, said Morse. —

— The Challengers (11-3, 0-1 SCL) lost the battle on the boards 41-27 and in the process gave up 21 offensive rebounds. —

— Obviously, we did a terrible job rebounding, said Morse. To prove that our 5-8 point guard Andy Kimmelshue led us with eight rebounds. We just did not box out. —

— Andy Baker, who had 13 first-half points, led the Challengers with 17 points. —
