Knights rally past Chieftains, 37-31

MERLIN -- North Valley received strong performances off the bench from Alison Klingel and McKenzie Clark en route to a 37-31 victory over Rogue River in Skyline Conference girls basketball Friday.

After trailing early, Rogue River stormed back in the second period to take a 21-15 halftime lead.

With about 4 minutes left in the second quarter we went into a mental lapse and turned the ball over a bunch against their press, North Valley coach Byron Robertson said. We went into a little coma.

The Knights were down by 10 points in the third quarter, then went on a 10-0 run to end the period to tie the game at 29.

We just calmed down, said Robertson. We finally got a little confidence and attached their zone.

The freshman Klingel gave the Knights some stability in the backcourt against the Chieftains press and sank a key free throw late in the game.

She looked like she's been out there for four years handling the ball, said Robertson.

Clark played a crucial role by contributing six points and six rebounds.

She was our spark, said Robertson. She got some key rebounds inside that she converted for points.

North Valley (7-3, 2-1 Skyline) pulled away in the final quarter as Rogue River was limited to two points.

The biggest difference was we held them to just five or six rebounds in the second half, said Robertson. We boxed out, hit the glass hard and got every loose ball.
