SOU hopes to end skid on Saturday
Southern Oregon University's football team will try to end a three-game losing streak on Saturday when it plays Humboldt State at Arcata, Calif.
Game time is 2 p.m. at Redwood Bowl.
The Raiders (3-5, 1-2 Columbia Football Association) rallied from a 37-14 deficit in the final eight minutes last Saturday to tie Simon Fraser at 37 and force overtime.
But the Raiders lost 43-37 in triple overtime.
They could have won the game in the second overtime, but Jason McGregor missed a 22-yard field goal after missing a 43-yarder in the first overtime.
Southern Oregon set a school record by scoring 30 points in the fourth quarter against Simon Fraser.
Southern Oregon junior tailback Griff Yates rushed for more than 200 yards for the seventh time in his career against Simon Fraser. He gained 221 yards on 33 carries.
Humboldt State is led by tailback Matt Dwayne and redshirt freshman quarterback Travis Mari of St. Bernard High of Eureka, Calif.
He (Mari) has a real strong arm, says Humboldt State head coach Fred Whitmire. He's a good passer, but he needs experience to make good decisions.
To beat Southern Oregon, we can't let them run up and down the field. We have to control Yates and Casey Jackson the best we can and not let their running game dominate us.
Yates leads the CFA in rushing (174.6 yards per game) and in scoring (13 points a game).
