North Valley discovers holes in Lakeview zone

MERLIN -- North Valley needed a quarter to figure out Lakeview's zone defense Saturday night. After that, it was a piece of cake as the Knights cranked out a 53-38 Skyline Conference boys basketball victory.

They had a zone defense so we had to move the ball around a lot to get good shots, North Valley coach Dave Forbuss said. We picked up the defensive pressure in the second half and created some turnovers.

The Knights held the Honkers to single digits in each of the final three periods, while scoring 41 points in the final 24 minutes.

North Valley's Josh Grossenbach scored all nine of his points in the second period as the Knights took a 30-24 halftime advantage.

Senior Warren Byers led the Knights (5-7, 2-2 Skyline) with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Luke Gentry added 11 points.

The Honkers (4-8, 1-3) were led by Nick Hadley's game-high 20 points.
