Bulldog boxers win 7 of 9

CANYONVILLE -- Members of the Bulldog Boxing Club helped the Oregon contingent take second in the team competition Saturday during the Northwest Classic Amateur Boxing Invitational at Seven Feathers Resort.

Seven of the nine participants from the Medford club earned victories, boosting Oregon to second behind Washington. California was third.

Troy Wohosky, 13, defeated Luis Tobar of Sacramento, Calif., at 106 pounds. Wohosky was named outstanding junior boxer.

Lionel Leon, 18, dropped a decision to 119-pounder Josh Dahl of South Everett, Wash., in the outstanding senior bout. Rooster Jackson, 16, moved up in weight class then lost a tough 3-2 decision to Vili Bloomfield of South Everett, Wash., at 175 pounds in a battle of third-ranked boxers. It was the outstanding senior bout of the evening. Bloomfield entered the bout No. — at 175, while Jackson entered No. — at 165.

In other Bulldog Boxing Club action, Ben Perez, 9, defeated Caleb Leonard of Sweet Home at 70 pounds; Moises Rodriguez, 9, defeated Wade Marney of Eugene at 75 pounds; Luis Regalado, 8, defeated Dylan Tibino of West Portland at 45 pounds; Sal Regalado, 16, defeated Jesus Orozco of Klamath Falls at 125 pounds; Ricky Gallegos, 16, defeated Terrell Barber of Tacoma, Wash., at 132 pounds; Mike Wilson, 16, defeated Silvano Gutierrez of Santa Rosa, Calif., in the 201-plus pound division.
