Challengers move into tie for second

Challengers move into tie for second —

Girls prep basketball —

CENTRAL POINT-- Cascade Christian's girls basketball team picked up the win but no style points Saturday in Southern Cascade League play at Scenic Middle School. —

— The Challengers and Bonanza staggered to an 8-8 tie at halftime before Cascade Christian finally found an answer to its scoring woes for a 35-21 victory. —

— Both teams just stifled each other in the first half, said Cascade Christian Loren King. It was more like a chess match, and almost as exciting. —

— Kelly Clarke helped stem the tide with eight of her team-high 14 points in the third quarter as the Challengers erupted for a 17-7 surge in the period. —

— Christine McCandless picked up the slack in the fourth quarter, posting seven of her 12 points to close out Bonanza. —

— We were just going hard at the basket in the second half, King said of Cascade's late burst in scoring. I told them if we couldn't make our offense work we'd go to the line and try to get something going there. —

— The win helped Cascade Christian (13-6 overall) move into a tie for second place with Bonanza at 3-1 in the SCL. Lost River leads the pack at 4-0. —
