Raider netter Jonasson

chosen player of week

Southern Oregon University senior Judy Jonasson's recent tennis play earned her NAIA Region I player of the week honors.

Jonasson became the first Raider tennis player ever to earn the regional award after posting a 3-0 weekend record in SOU victories at Dominican and Mills colleges.

Jonasson won four of five singles games and teamed with Anne Endrikat for an 8-5 doubles win at Dominican, allowing her to equal school records for consecutive singles wins (8) and doubles victories (6).

The former North Medford High star now holds a 14-0 season record and is 44-11 since transferring to SOU from the University of Puget Sound prior to the 1999 season.

series at state tourney

Medford's Colleen Padilla rolled a 773 series this weekend at the Oregon State Queens Tournament in Albany.

The 36-year-old bowled games of 278, 258 and 237 for a ninth-place finish. She held down a 216 average during the two-day tournament.

Ashland's Keith Martin, 22, took first place Friday in a snowboarding competition at the Southern Oregon Ski/Boarder Cross at Mount Ashland.

Jerret Kenworthy took second and Billy Peterson third.

Gary Yedman, Matt Cullens, Brett Huet, Billy Peterson, Andy White and Doug Thayer also won top spots in men's snowboarding in their respective age groups.

Other men's winners were Ryan Scott, Seth Hill and Ty Jocham.

Monika Neri, Shilo Boutwe and Nicole Gauthie each grabbed firsts in women's snowboarding.

Willa Myrman took first in the women's skiing competition followed by runner-up Jessica Lacouise.

Jonny Armstrong won the men's skiing competition while Dan Cameron took second and Casey O'Brian third.

event set for Saturday

Portland Wrestling comes to Medford Saturday at North Medford High.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Matches start at 7:30.

The event is a benefit for the North Medford wrestling team.

Among those expected to wrestle: Mark Large, Billy Two Eagles, Moondog Ed Moretti, Brian Cox, Gorgeous Joey Jackson, Lou The Bull Andrews and Chuck Bam Bam Gordir.

Tickets are $15 ringside, $12 reserved and $9 for general admission. Advance tickets are available via Fred Meyer Fastixx or may be charged by telephone at 800-992-8499.

Senior softball meeting to be held on Thursday

The Rogue Valley Senior Softball Association will hold and informational and sign-up meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Santo Community Center.

To be eligible for play, men must reach their 50th birthday during the year 2000. New players must a pay a membership fee of $25 and will be drafted by existing teams.

Games will be played at the Southern Oregon Fields in White City on Wednesdays from May through August.

Efforts are also being made to organize a Senior Women's Division, provided there are enough women interested.

scheduled for Sunday

The Tioga Archery Club has scheduled a 3-D shoot to be held at the Roseburg Rod and Gun Club on Sunday.

Registration runs from 7:30-11 a.m. with a $20 fee for family, $16 for couples, $10 for adults and $4 for youths. Cubs and peewees can shoot for free.
