Black Tornado down Grants Pass, 6-3

GRANTS PASS-- Southern Oregon Conference boys tennis favorite North Medford is backing up to its billing with its performance on the court.

North followed up a 9-0 drubbing of Roseburg on Thursday with a 6-3 SOC victory Saturday against Grants Pass.

We're pretty happy with our last two matches, said North Medford first-year coach Ray Odor. We're playing well as a team. Guys are understanding their roles. It's nice we have players that are good in both singles and doubles. It gives us a more well-rounded team.

North's Jon Endrikat kept his SOC singles record unblemished at 7-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Levi Brown. In doing so, Endrikat moved one step closer to securing the SOC No. — seed at the district tournament.

Jon is a strong, strong tennis player, Grants Pass coach Marty Zottola said. He's very disciplined. He's confident enough to be patient for a winner and he knows when to take it.

The Black Tornado received season-best performances from Richard Louie in No. — singles and from its No. — doubles team of Jeremy Leever and Brock Jonasson.

Louie dispatched Jameson Zottola, 6-1, 6-0, while Leever and Jonasson outplayed Tom Cohen and Paul Dickerson in a pivotal doubles matchup for district seeding.

The Leever-Jonasson 6-4, 6-1 victory gives the North team the inside track for the No. 2 seed at district.

Cohen and Dickerson were in the first set and I thought they still had a chance to win, said Zottola. They (Leever-Jonasson) got stronger as the match went on. They never gave our guys a chance to get into it.

North Medford (7-1 SOC) will attempt to avenge its only conference loss of the season Wednesday with a road match against Ashland at Hunter Park.
