Myer helps Roseburg pin first loss on Royals

EAGLE POINT — Mike Myer tossed a six-hitter and struck out 12 to lead Roseburg to a 3-2 victory over previously unbeaten North Jackson at the Southern Oregon Classic baseball tournament here Saturday.

The Royals bounced back with a 6-4 victory over North Salem later in the day.

Despite having little success against Myer, the Royals tied the game 2-2 in the top of the seventh on a solo home run by Jake Kleker.

But Roseburg won the game in the bottom of the inning when Ron Cooper singled home David Powell.

North Jackson pitcher Jesse Stevenson was dominant much of the way in the Royals? victory over North Salem. The right-hander allowed five hits and struck out 15.

Ryan Garrett went 2-for-4 and scored twice to fuel the Royals? offense.

PHOENIX 9-2, SOUTH MEDFORD 5-15- At Talent, Clint Rodreick fired a six-hitter with seven strikeouts to lead South Medford to victory in the second game of an American Legion doubleheader with Phoenix.

Nolan Roberts went 4-for-4 at the plate and Kyle Kaufman went 3-for-3 to pace the Pirates to victory in the opener.

Rodreick also had a big day at the plate. He had five hits, five stolen bases and six runs scored in the twin bill, and drilled a two-run triple in the nightcap.

The split left South Medford with a 2-4 record. Phoenix is 1-5.

CENTRAL POINT WINS TWICE

— — At Eagle Point, the Central Point Comets battled their way to victories over Roseburg Pepsi, 9-4, and the Klamath Hawks, 13-3, in the Southern Oregon Classic.

Robbie Williams went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and winning pitcher Kevin Mulder added two hits as the Comets (3-6) struck early and often against Roseburg.

Central Point banged out 12 hits and took advantage of 10 walks issued by Klamath Falls pitchers.

P.J. Pardee went 2-for-3, walked twice and scored four runs, while driving in three more. Josh Hinojosa was 2-for-2, walked twice and drove in two runs, while Trent Kingsbury was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
