Xplosion win U-12 event with undefeated record
The Xplosion U-12 girls team from Rogue Valley Soccer Club won its division in the International Rotary Club in Springfield Sunday.
The Xplosion completed the three-day tournament with a 5-0 record, culminating in a 3-0 victory against the Westside Metro Fusion from Beaverton
In the championship match, forward Kylie Snyder gave the Xplosion a 1-0 halftime lead with a goal from five yards out.
The Xplosion added second half goals by midfielder Justine Lawson and forward Chelsie O'Neill, who paced the squad in the tournament with six of the team's 11 goals and three assists.
Goalie Michelle Kunkle registered the shutout in the finals and only allowed two goals in the tournament. Kunkle was supported with strong defensive play by Caitlin Engle, Tracy Dunn, Tamara Heryford and Andi Bagdan.
Engle, Rachael Barry and Alex Batzer contributed goals for the Xplosion in the tournament. The Xplosion also won the U-11 division in the Rogue Valley Cup.
All-comers track meets slated at Ashland High
ASHLAND — A series of track and field all-comers meets is under way at Ashland High.
The meets will run on July 17, July 24 and July 31 beginning at 5:30 p.m. for youngsters aged 3-10 and at 7 p.m. for those aged 11 and above.
Track events contested are the 50, 100, 150, 200, 400, 800, 1,500, 3000 and 60 hurdles. Field events are the long jump, high jump, shotput and softball throw.
Track and field camp set July 24-28 in Ashland
ASHLAND — A track and field camp for youngsters entering grades 3-8 will be held at the Ashland High track July 24-28.
Cost is $40.
The camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon each day.
Events include jumps, throws, hurdles, sprinting and distance running.
Participants will receive a T-shirt, snacks each day and lunch on Friday. They may register just prior to the camp on July 24.

Kendall set to face off against Olympic squad
Jessame Kendall, a 1997 graduate of Illinois Valley High, will play on a college all-star team in a doubleheader against the U.S. Olympic softball team in Sacramento, Calif., next Tuesday.
Kendall, who will be a senior at Humboldt State, is a two-time Division II All-American. She was nominated to the 26-person team by manager Joel Hessing.
The Olympic team is touring the country playing pro and amateur teams to prepare for the 2000 Games.
Adult broomball league being set at the RRRink
An adult broomball league is being conducted from 10 p.m. until 12:15 a.m. on Fridays in July and August at The RRRink.
Broomball is a game where players, wearing tennis shoes not skates, propel a ball across the ice with a special broom.
Cost is $60 per person or team registration is available.

Cross country series runs July 19 to Aug. 9
The Southern Oregon Sizzlers summer cross country series begins July 19 and continues every Wednesday through Aug. 9.
There will be 5K and 2K runs beginning at 7 p.m. between the tennis courts and amphitheater at Bear Creek Park. Cost is $1 for students and $2 for adults.
Runs may be delayed or canceled due to extreme heat.

Two Little League teams allowed local contest
Medford American takes on Ashland in an opening-round Little League district tournament major boys game Friday at 6 p.m. at the Medford American Fields.
The remainder of the tournament for 13- and 14-year-olds will be played beginning Saturday in LaPine.
