Tornado trips Grizz at the line

Tornado trips Grizz at the line —

SOC boys basketball roundup

ASHLAND

-- It didn't take a genius to figure out why the North Medford boys walked off with a 60-55 Southern Oregon Conference victory over Ashland on Friday night. —

— While the Grizzlies made just 13 of 25 free throw attempts, North Medford converted 25 of 37 to earn its first SOC win of the season. —

— Mike Olson scored 15 points, Casey Casebier had 14 and Wes Towne added 11 for the Black Tornado, which improved to 1-1 in the SOC and 4-7 overall. —

— Ashland fell to 0-2 in the SOC and 4-9 overall. —

— We lost it at the free-throw line, no question about it, Ashland coach John Skinner said. You feel badly for the kids because they went out and played a good game other than that one area. It's pretty frustrating. —

— Despite missing 10 free throws in the first half, the Grizzlies built a 34-20 lead. But the Black Tornado went on a 10-0 run to close the half and draw within 34-30. —

— Kris Pavilionis paced the Grizzlies with 17 points and Brett Zundel had 11 points, 14 rebounds and six blocked shots. —

— Ashland still led 46-41 after three periods before North Medford went on a 19-9 run in the fourth to win the game. —
