Tryouts for pro indoor football team Saturday

The Southern Oregon Heat Professional Indoor Football League will hold open tryouts at 2 p.m. Saturday in the South Medford High School gym.

Event day registration begins at 12:30 p.m. Registration fee is $35 if paid by Oct. 13 and $50 on the event date.

This is the only open tryout for the team. All other camps are by invitation only.

Linebackers won't be holding meeting today

There will be no Medford Linebackers meeting today because of in-service day in the school district.

The meeting will be held next Friday at noon at J.J. North's Grand Buffet.

Laney bowls 299-758 in competition for the deaf

Perry Laney of Medford bowled a 299 game Saturday during a Southern Oregon Bowlers Association of the Deaf tournament at Reedsport Lanes.

Laney, the president of SOBAD, also had games of 234 and 225 for a 758 series.

The association is comprised of 10 teams of four bowlers each, ranging from Eugene to the south.

Barry records ace on par-4 hole at Cedar Links

The first hole-in-one of Brent Barry's golf career came on a par-4 hole, not the a par — as is most common.

Barry, of Medford, aced the 364-yard 14th hole at Cedar Links Golf Course Sunday. Barry cut the corner on the hole, which doglegs to the right.

Central Point bowling team honored for title

KLAMATH FALLS — Jana Gunn rolled a 633 series to lead her team to first place at the 2000 Oregon State Women's Bowling Association's 57th annual Championship Tournament earlier this year.

Team members were presented with their awards Wednesday at Lava Lanes.

Gunn, a member of the Roxy Ann Veterinary Clinic team from Central Point, bowled games of 208, 234 and 191 to help the squad to a 3,427.

Gibson turns in a 774 series in junior bowling

Junior bowler Robert Gibson, of Central Point rolled a 774 series Monday in the Generation X League at Lava Lanes.

Gibson, 20, bowled games of 289, 227 and 258 to notch the second 700 series of his 12-year bowling career. He now holds a 212 average.

Gibson's 774 is the highest series in the Medford area YABA Junior Bowlers this year.

In the 2000 Oregon State Junior Bowling Leaders Tournament, Gibson notched a 724 series and took the title for the second straight year. He was also the 1997 Junior Bowler of the Year.
