Signups being taken for Oct. 21 Stagecoach Run

The Southern Oregon Sizzlers will put on the 29 running of the Stagecoach Run Oct. 21.

The race starts at the U.S. Naval Reserve, 3070 Ross Lane, which is — miles north of Jacksonville.

The 1-mile fun run for all ages starts at 8.-30 a.m., the junior high Stagecoach Cup starts at 9 a.m. and the 5- and 10-kilometer main events start at 9:30 a.m.

Proceeds from the race will benefit the Pear Blossom Scholarship Foundation for local high school athletes. Forty scholarships have been awarded since its founding in 1985.

OIT coach Miles named to NAIA Hall of Fame

KLAMATH FALLS — Oregon Institute of Technology men's basketball and softball coach Dan Miles has been named to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame.

Miles, a Medford native who also serves as athletic director, was recognized for exemplifying the highest ideals of intercollegiate athletics and fine moral character.

Formal presentation of the award will take place in early March during the national NAIA Division II basketball championships in Missouri.

He currently ranks second among active NAIA basketball coaches and leads Division II coaches in wins. While at OIT, he has coached basketball, baseball, football and softball. He has also been active in American Legion baseball.

In the last four years, he has led teams to the national basketball tournament three times. OIT softball teams have won four conference championships in the last three years and one trip to the college world series under his direction.

Miles was starting quarterback for Southern Oregon University his freshman year. He earned All-American honors in football, all-conference honors in

basketball and was named to the all-district baseball team in college.

In 1996, he was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.

S. Oregon Duck Club to gather on Wednesday

The Southern Oregon Duck Club will meet for lunch at noon Wednesday at J.J. North's Grand Buffet, 1016 N. Riverside, Medford.

Video highlights of Saturday's 28-17 win over Southern Cal will be played and an Oregon assistant coach will be available via telephone.

A weekly raffle will also be held. The cost is $7.

YMCA peewee hoop registration to start

Registration for the YMCA's peewee basketball league for first- and second-graders starts this Friday.

The five-week league begins Nov. 11.

Teams practice for 30 minutes prior to playing short games. The cost is $13 for YMCA members and $26 for non-members.

Golf tournament is open to super senior players

WHITE CITY — Players 60 and older wanting to participate in next Monday's Super Seniors tournament at StoneRidge Golf Club may register by calling the pro shop.

Individuals will be scored on their best 16 holes, gross and net. A shotgun start is slated for 10 a.m. The cost is $25 ($35 with a cart).
