Coolidge wins third District 5 title

ROSEBURG — St. Mary's Trevor Coolidge captured his third straight District 5 boys cross country title Thursday at the Roseburg Veteran's Administration golf course.

The Crusaders completed the sweep of individual winners when junior Jenny Brown triumphed in the girls race.

Pacific won the boys team title and finished second in girls. Canyonville Christian Academy was the girls team winner, while St. Mary's placed third.

The top two teams and seven fastest individuals advance to the Class 2A state meet Nov. 4 at Lane Community College.

Coolidge, 17, had little difficulty in the boys 5K race. The St. Mary's senior led from wire-to-wire and posted a winning time of 16 minutes, seven seconds. Kyle Robbins of Gold Beach was second at 16:21.

Trevor went out from the gun for a good fast time, St.Mary's coach Joe Volk said. He was 10 seconds better than last year's district time.

St. Mary's, which finished sixth in last year's meet, placed third with 65 points. Days Creek took second with 43.

Joe Reedy was the Crusaders next highest finisher at 21st. Reedy posted a two minute lifetime best with a mark of 19:13.

Brown, who was competing in only her second meet of the season because of wrist surgery, pulled away from runner-up Reyna Quiroz in the last 500 meters to win by eight seconds. Brown's winning time was 20:03.

St. Mary's sophomore Leah Sawyer finished third at 20:33. Last year, Sawyer ran a 20:42 at district.

The Crusaders girls team narrowly missed qualifying for state. St. Mary's finished third with 49 points, while Pacific placed second with 44.
