SOU volleyball picks up its 10th consecutive win

ASHLAND — The 23rd-ranked Southern Oregon University volleyball team won its 10th consecutive match and ninth straight at home with a 10-15, 15-13, 15-10, 15-8 Cascade Conference triumph over Western Baptist at McNeal Pavilion Friday.

Junior all-star hitter Shelley Gorin and freshman middle blocker Kristina Matchett each notched 20 kills to help the Raiders (17-5, 11-2) overcome a Game — deficit and emerge with SOU's 26th home victory in the past 28 outings since 1998.

Southern's hold on second-place in the league race and a first-round bye in the postseason tournament appeared to be in jeopardy when the Warriors (7-10, 6-7) rattled off 11 straight points in Game — en route to a 15-10 triumph.

Ashland water polo clubs record big triumphs

ASHLAND — Ashland posted two water polo wins on Friday over Cottage Grove, the boys winning 18-8 and the girls winning 18-0 Southern Oregon University pool.

The third-ranked Ashland boys were paced by junior Brad Scoles with three goals, two assists and three steals.

The sixth-ranked Ashland girls were led by Vanessa Walker with four goals.

South Medford Generals AAU hoop tryouts today

Tryouts for the South Medford Generals AAU youth boys basketball teams will be today at the school gym.

Boys in the fifth through eighth grades living in the South Medford attendance area are welcome to try out.

Tryout times are 3-5 p.m. for seventh- and eighth-graders and 5-7 p.m. for fifth- and sixth-graders.

Those who can't make it today can try out from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday in the school's east gym.

Crenshaw honored for soccer play at St. Mary's

Lu Crenshaw, a redshirt freshman from Medford, was named West Coast Conference and Soccertimes.com player of the week for the week of October 16-22.

Crenshaw scored the game-winning goal in the Gaels? 2-1 victory over Michigan State at the 113:25 mark in double overtime, then lifted Saint Mary's to a 4-2 upset of No. 15 Santa Clara by scoring all four goals in the match.

In six games since Crenshaw has returned from an injury hiatus, she has tallied 16 points (six goals, four assists), helping the team to an 11-4-2 overall record, 4-0 in the WCC.

North Medford wrestling signups set for Thursday

North Medford Youth Wrestling will hold signups Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the North Medford High wrestling room.

The program is for children 6 through 14 years old. Cost is $40.

Ziegenhage records ace on No. 9 at Cedar Links

Mark Ziegenhagen recorded the second hole-in-one of his golf career Friday at Cedar Links Golf Course in Medford.

Ziegenhagen aced the ninth hole, hitting an 8-iron 165 yards. His playing partners were Mike Austin, Clark Malmgren and Del Westlund.

Meeting slated for Ashland athletics

A winter sports meeting for coaches from each sport, parents and athletes will take place Nov. 1, at Ashland High. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the large gym.

Following general presentation each sport will hold a meeting for the parents and athletes going out for their specific sport.
