No. 1 Crater cruises past South Medford, 51-6

CENTRAL POINT-- Coach Greg Haga gave several of his mainstays Thursday night off, but the top-ranked Crater wrestling team still smothered visiting South Medford, 51-6.

Crater won 12 of 14 matches, including a pin by heavyweight Chris Dearmon and a technical fall by 130-pounder Jason Licato.

It was good to get some of our younger kids in the lineup so they could wrestle another team's varsity, Haga said.

The one that makes me the happiest is junior Aric Keeney (who decisioned South's Aaron Noyes, 112-6, at 119). That was his first time wrestling varsity or JV. He did a great job rolling around out there and came up with a win.

Keeney clinched his triumph in the third round. He led 7-5 before giving up an escape. But he followed with a takedown and a nearfall that netted five points.

The Comets improved to 4-0 in Southern Oregon Conference duals and 11-2 overall.
