Crater wrestlers roll over GP

CENTRAL POINT — Crater received a couple of inspired performances by young wrestlers Thursday and rolled to a 47-19 Southern Oregon Conference victory over Grants Pass.

The Comets? Nick Cook made an impressive debut when he stormed to a win by fall over Grants Pass? Zack Steadman.

Cook won in 1:32, helping Crater run its dual-meet record to 10-2-1 on the season.

It was the first time he wrestled varsity for us and he did a great job, said Comet coach Greg Haga. He came out strong and wrestled real aggressively to get the fall for us.

At 130 pounds, Crater freshman Josh Stratton was on the losing end of a 12-2 count, but he gave Mike Watts, last year's district runner-up, a battle.

Watts led only 4-0 entering the third period, when he used his experience to open it up at the end.

Shane Webster of Crater ran his record to 20-0 on the year — — he's the lone unbeaten Comet — with a fall in 53 seconds over Brain Alves at 171.

Crater's other pins came from Cody Ponder (112), Bob Pool (140), Justin Samples (189) and Aaron Harleman (215).
