Gilchrist trips up Cascade

The Cascade Christian boys basketball team made 37 seconds seem like an eternity Friday in a Southern Cascade League game with fourth-ranked Gilchrist.

The Challengers trailed 64-63 and had almost an entire half's worth of opportunities in those waning 37 seconds but couldn't cash in during a 66-63 loss at Superior Gym.

It was a great game to watch, said Cascade Christian coach Brian Morse. I guess it would have been better from our standpoint if we could have won but I was pleased with how we played.

The Challengers missed a layup, two free throws, a putback off an offensive rebound and a short jump shot wouldn't stay down with 11 seconds left to play but still weren't out of it.

Gilchrist had an opportunity to run out the clock following a long pass down court.

But instead of dribbling out the clock, the Grizzlies settled for an uncontested layup, leaving 10 seconds left and one more shot for the Challengers.
