SOU's Mart named first team All-American

ASHLAND — Southern Oregon University football senior defensive back Nathan Mart garnered first-team NAIA All-American status after leading the team and ranking fifth nationally with seven interceptions.

Mart is the school's eighth first-team All-American since 1965, and the former Springfield High star is the first Raider defensive back to achieve the distinction.

Joining Mart in the 2000 NAIA honors program is junior free safety Jacob Rule, whose 3.61 grade point average landed the Physical Education major NAIA Academic All-American kudos.

Rule, the team's special teams MVP the past two seasons, finished second on the team with 54 tackles, including 39 solos, in a starting role last season.
