Soccer tryouts slated Feb. 3-4 in Central Point

CENTRAL POINT — Tryouts for the Table Rock Soccer Club's entries in the Southern Oregon Classic League are scheduled Feb. 3-4 at Central Point Elementary soccer fields.

Girls tryouts are Feb. 3, beginning at 9 a.m. for U-12 and U-16 teams, followed by U-14 and U-18 at 10:45.

Boys tryouts are Feb. 4, starting at 9 a.m. for U-12 and U-16 teams, followed by U-14 and U-18 at 10:45.

Wallis, Tokman earn spot on Oregon all-star team

Two Superior Aquatics 12-year-olds have earned spots on the 32-swimmer Oregon team that will compete in the West Coast All-Star Swim Meet at Las Vegas, Saturday and Sunday.

Darian Wallis and Tolga Tokman turned in qualifying times to gain entry in the meet for 11-to-14-year-olds at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

Superior Aquatics also won a recent 12-team swim meet in Eugene where Ben Dawson and Hillary Burrelle were named outstanding swimmers in the River Road Otter Invitational.

Seven Superior swimmers accounted for 16 first-place finishes: Elise Boldt (100 breaststroke, 1:22.85); Jesse Bright (50 breaststroke, 35.98); Jamie Buckley (100 butterfly, 1:24.90; 100 freestyle, 1:07.52; 50 freestyle, 31.60); Burrelle (100 butterfly, 1:11.78); Kayla Haugen (200 individual medley, 2:29.76; 100 backstroke, 1:05.12); Krystle Haugen (100 freestyle, 1:00.05); and Ashley Johnson (400 individual medley, 4:45.56; 200 butterfly, 2:14.50; 200 freestyle, 2:05.51; 100 butterfly, 1:01.99; 100 backstroke, 1:04.70; 100 breaststroke, 1:12.24; 500 freestyle, 5:30.08).

Central Point Babe Ruth sets meeting for Monday

An organizational meeting for Central Point Babe Ruth baseball is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. next Monday at Anhorn Field.

Laing, Cates pace efforts in snowboard outing

MOUNT ASHLAND — Callie Laing of North Medford and Asa Cates of Ashland were the top performers in a high school snowboard giant slalom competition Saturday.

Laing had a two-run combined time of 1:42.421. Courtney Laird of North was second in 1:47.325 and Leah Wariner of Grants Pass third in 2:02.718.

Cates was clocked in 1:30.797, followed by Owen King of Ashland in 1:33.723 and Josh Traphagan of South Medford in 1:34.466.

Medford American L.L. schedules registration

Registration for Medford American Little League baseball and softball is scheduled 6:30-8:30 p.m. Jan. 30 and Feb. 8 at the North Medford High cafeteria.

Copies of birth certificates are required. The cost if $35 for players 9 and younger and $45 for players 10 and older. The cap cost for a family is $75.

RRRink to start classes for youth hockey players

Mike Meeker has been hired as a hockey instructor at the RRRink skating arena.

Meeker will teach skills and drills classes for beginners and advanced players. He will also teach skating skills for non-players as well.

Youth hockey classes are scheduled 5:15-6 p.m. Wednesdays through March 7. The cost is $54.

Foundational ice skating skills classes are slated 11 a.m. to noon Saturdays through March 3. The cost is $55.

A combined youth and adult hockey class is set for 12:15-1:45 p.m. Saturdays through March 3. The cost is $86.

Thorndike heads charge for MARA competitors

Camila Thorndike won first-place medals in the giant slalom and slalom, in the 12-13-year-old girls division to highlight Mount Ashland Racing Association's performance in competition last weekend at Willamette Pass.

Danny Formolo was second in the boys slalom, Brittany Martin was first in the 9-10 girls slalom, Rebecca Marguilies third, Morgan Martin fourth and Julia Marguilies fifth.

In the 9-10 boys division, David Formolo was second in the slalom, Kos Ray third and Jeff Lewis fifth.

Molly MacGraw was second in the 11-12 girls slalom, Christy Hald was third, Isabella Thorndike fourth and Sarah Ashpole fifth.
