Hinton holds off Duste
WHITE CITY - Jay Hinton Jr. won a big battle of the "juniors" on Saturday night at the Southern Oregon Speedway.
Hinton Jr. held off every charge Dave Duste Jr. threw at him in winning the prestigious 50-lap Art Pollard Modified Memorial. Hinton Jr. took the lead from the outset and never relinquished it, even after the drivers took a planned pit stop after 25 laps.
Duste Jr. was within striking distance but was unable to mount a final charge when lapped traffic slowed him late in the race.
The win was the second feature victory of the season for Hinton Jr.
The usual suspects were at it again in the pro stock main event. And for the second straight week and fourth time this season, Jim Walker Jr. Took the checkered flag, edging Frank Word III and Tony Walker for the honors.
Tony Walker was slowed early on by a flat tire but charged from the back of the pack for his solid finish.
Walker Jr. or Word III has won each of the six features this season.
Patrick Lanigan emerged from a battle with Jim Hill to win the mini stock main event. Lanigan has won four straight features after Hill opened the season with a pair of wins.
The only race that wasn't closely contested was in the dwarf cars, where Curt Hunter of Eugene dominated the action for the feature win.
Racing continues next Saturday night at the Speedway, with gates opening at 4 p.m. and racing starting at 6 p.m.
