Holman breaks record at bowling tournament

Marshall Holman broke the Oregon State Bowling Association all-events record with a 2,298 total at the Oregon State Bowling Association Championship Tournament Saturday in Klamath Falls.

Holman, who will be inducted in the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame on Aug. 11, broke the 1993 record of 2,286 held by Jim Birch from Portland.

All-events encompasses singles, doubles and team bowling events.

Holman rolled a 726 in singles, posted a 747 series in doubles and in the team event Holman rolled a 279, 246 and a perfect 300.

Five Skyline players invited to all-star series

Five Skyline Conference players have been selected by the Oregon High School Baseball Coaches Association to play on the the South squad for the 22nd annual North-South 3A All-Star Baseball Series.

The series is set for June 16-17 at Legion Field in Roseburg.

There will be a nine-inning game at 7:30 p.m. June 16, and two seven-inning games beginning at noon June 17.

Local players selected are pitcher Scott Hyde and first baseman Troy Beard of Hidden Valley, infielder Travis Dunlap and outfielder Kyle Kaufman of Phoenix and pitcher Brad Bailey of Henley.

The South coach is Al Skinner of Glide.

Sapienza signs on to play basketball at Lane CC

Janell Sapienza, a member of the Crater girls basketball team that placed second at the Class 4A state tournament three out of her four years, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Lane Community College.

The 5-foot-9 senior guard was a third-team Southern Oregon Conference all-star selection this season. Sapienza averaged 7.8 points and 4.4 rebounds a game during her senior season.
