Gibson captures three events in state bowling
Central Point's Holly Gibson won three events in Division I at the Oregon State Young America Bowling Alliance Championship tournament in Klamath Falls in March and April.
The Crater High sophomore, who was Lava Lanes junior girl bowler of the year, rolled a tournament-best 729 series in singles, 705 in doubles and finished with a 592 in the team event.
In Division II boys, Robert Cutteridge bowled an overall 2,387 to take second, while Tyler Ellis also finished second with a 2,473 in Division III.
Kayla Tallman rolled a 2,215 to finish fifth and Tom Wiley took sixth with a 2,312 in Division III.
In Division IV, Rikki Lynn Rapp rolled a fifth-best 2,256 and Nicholas Chanquet took sixth with a 2,270.
Trio of area golfers record holes-in-one
Three golfers - Judy Tonn, Bill Murphy and Dave Knox - fired holes-in-one recently on Rogue Valley golf courses.
Central Point's Tonn registered her first ace Tuesday on the ninth hole at Cedar Links Golf Course.
Tonn, who coaches Crater High's girls golfers, used a 6-iron on the 128-yard hole during Executive Women's Golf Association play.
At Red Mountain Golf Course, Murphy shot a hole-in-on on the 184-yard No. 5 hole, using a 3-wood.
Neil McKinney, Ed Premo and Rick Sharrard witnessed the shot.
Knox, of Medford, notched the first of his career Wednesday during Senior Tour play at StoneRidge Golf Club.
Knox aced the 17th hole with a pitching wedge. It played to 124 yards.
His playing partners were Don McClure, Earl Wood and John Ferris.
