Davis earns position on state rodeo team
Bret Davis of Phoenix High recently earned a position on the Oregon state high school rodeo team.
Davis has qualified to compete in the bareback bronc and bull riding competitions.
Clarke leads area stars in girls basketball event
Kelly Clarke paced a contingent of three local basketball players recently at the East-West 2A All-Star basketball game in Salem.
Clarke, of Cascade Christian High, scored 12 points and had three assists in 14 minutes of play for the East squad, which lost to the West 62-58.
Clarke converted 6 of 14 shots from the field and added five rebounds.
Janelle Conley, also of Cascade Christian, hit 2 of 5 shots for four points for the East, while Lani Brophy of St. Mary's High had two points for the East.
Goodkin paces locals at jump-rope competition
ORLANDO, Fla. - A group of four jump-roping youths from Phoenix High fared well Saturday at the USA Jump-rope Federation National Championships, featuring 65 teams and 700 competitors.
In the 18-over division, Kelly Goodkin of Talented Feet led the way with a sixth-place finish in the single rope freestyle.
Goodkin, who has been a member of the team from first through 12th grade, joined Joey Hagler to place 10th in the single rope pairs freestyle.
Goodkin and Hagler were joined by Paola Mobley to take 10th in the double dutch single freestyle competition.
Competing in the age 15-17 division, Jennifer Knight had a flawless routine in single rope freestyle but was unable to earn a placing ribbon due to the degree of difficulty of her routine.
Talented Feet is coached by Ann Thompson-Hague.
Hester bowls his first 700 series at Lava Lanes
Bryan Hester bowled his first-ever 700 series Thursday night in Generation X League action at Lava Lanes.
Hester rolled games of 244, 234 and 234 for a 712 series. He has a 187 average.
Alley Angels take lead in state bowling tourney
GRANTS PASS - The Alley Angels recently moved into first place in the Division — team event of the Oregon State Women's Bowling Association tourney at Caveman Bowl.
The Alley Angels combined for a 3,434 score. Laura Vaccher rolled a 598 series to lead the Angels, who also had solid series totals from Thelma Glass (560), Patty Dayton (497), Michelle Sackett (480) and Sandy Mathews (471).
The tournament concludes next week.
