Local Report:

McCoy, Courier receive honors for ice skating

Sarah Courier, 9, and Larissa McCoy, 14, were chosen as the recipients of the Artistic Performance Award at the first annual Exhibition of Stars recently at the RRRink.

The exhibition recognized local ice skaters' achievements during the past year and was hosted by the Southern Oregon Figure Skating Club.

Courier, who took home three medals recently at the State Games of Oregon, received her award in the lower division.

McCoy represented the upper division and is preparing for her first qualifying competition at the Pacific Northwest Regionals in Alaska this October.

A highlight of the exhibition was a performance by the club's Diamonds on Ice synchronized team. The unit recently qualified for the 2003 State Games of America.
