Henley continues hot streak with runaway win over Phoenix

KLAMATH FALLS - Skyline Conference co-leader Henley threw a suffocating defense on the Phoenix Pirates and registered its eighth consecutive league victory on Tuesday.

Henley, which didn't have any player score more than eight points, defeated Phoenix 40-24.

"Defensively, we played pretty well, we usually do," said Henley coach Ron Smith. "It was a low key, flat, lackadaisical game for us offensively. We've been flat offensively for the past two or three games."

Sam Young scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Hornets. Becky Schwartz came off the bench to also tally eight points for Henley, which is tied atop the Skyline standings with North Valley at 8-1.

"She (Schwartz) can come in and really spark you," said Smith. "If she's cooking, you better watch out. She can knock them down."

Smith estimates Henley won the battle of the boards with 44 rebounds. Megan Sutfin pulled down a team-high 11.

For Phoenix, Jennifer Dunlap and Kristi Duffell each scored a team-high six points. The Hornets limited Tiffany Ross to just one point.

"Ross never got a chance to do much," said Smith. "She got in foul trouble early and wasn't a factor."
