Bulldog boxers win fifth straight team title

PORTLAND -

The Medford Bulldog Boxing Club won its fifth-straight team title and had two members win individual titles Saturday at the Oregon Golden Gloves tournament.

The Bulldogs, which had three unopposed champions on Friday, qualified six of the seven competitors it took to the tournament for the Regional Golden Gloves held April 27-28 in Las Vegas.

At 147 pounds, Enrique Gallegos defeated Brett Harper of Vancouver, British Columbia, while teammate Mike Wilson won the superheavyweight title over Brian Torzewski of Tacoma, Wash.

At 132, Lorenzo Rios dropped a 4-1 decision to Tacoma's Cordell Barbour and Nathan James fell to Robert Marthaller of Corvallis. Despite the defeat, Rios already qualified for Regionals with a semifinal win over an Oregon opponent on Friday.
