Crater, Eagle Point to split radio coverage next season

Crater and Eagle Point will find their way onto local radio airwaves during the high school football season next fall.

Radio Medford and Table Rock Productions made the announcement at a press conference Tuesday.

The Comets and Eagles will share radio station KBOY-FM (95.7), appearing on the airwaves on alternating weeks.

The addition means that every school in the Southern Oregon Conference will be carried on radio.

Some of the other local prep football teams are headed for different stations than a year ago. The new format will find Ashland on KTMT-AM (580), North Medford on KCMX-AM (880) and South Medford on KAKT-FM (105).

During the basketball season, Ashland, North Medford and South Medford will appear on those same stations, while Crater and Eagle Point will have their games tape-delayed on an alternating basis on KCMX.

Crater Athletic Director Dan Speasl is thrilled to see his school make the football airwaves for the first time.

"It's nice to be on equal footing with the other schools," he said. "It can't help but promote more interest in our community."

Eagle Point found its way onto the local radio airwaves during the 1995 and '96 seasons when it marched through the state playoffs, but has never had a station to call its own.
