Butte Falls continues Sky A dominance

BUTTE FALLS ' Butte Falls hasn't lost a Skyline A League Southern Division volleyball match this century.

The Loggers clinched the division title and registered their 35th consecutive division victory with a 25-20, 25-17, 25-19 victory over second-place Hosanna Christian Saturday.

Butte Falls needs a win over Triad and North Lake this week to secure its third straight undefeated division season. The Loggers' last loss in division play came in 1999.

We just pulled away steadily against Hosanna, Butte Falls coach Mike Harrington said. We were never in trouble.

Juniors Asia Million and Sarah Matthews paced the Loggers on the front line. Million had four aces and 16 kills, while Matthews pounded four aces to go with four blocks.

Butte Falls also received strong play from junior outside Kathi St. George (seven digs) and Krystle Rowley (16 assists).

We served tough and they couldn't get any offense going, said Harrington.

ROGUE RIVER SECOND ' Rogue River went undefeated in pool play, then won two matches to advance to the finals of the Douglas Tournament before losing to Days Creek.

The Chieftains were 5-1, falling in the championship, 25-10, 17-25, 15-13. They defeated the Grants Pass JV in the quarterfinals and the North Medford JV in the semifinals.

For the tournament, Rogue River's Katie Glasscock had 13 aces, 17 digs and 32 kills, Kristi Frederick notched 31 digs and 21 kills and Ashleigh Artoff had 41 assists.

Also, Madi Biggs contributed 12 aces and 29 digs, Alex Dean had 18 digs and Casey Huston 13 stuff blocks.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN WINS TOURNEY ' Sophomore outside hitter Natalie Dicus had six kills and three digs to lead Cascade Christian to a 25-23 victory over Coquille in the championship match of the North Valley Tournament.

The Challengers' Kayleen Conley, a 6-foot-1 senior middle, was the tournament MVP.

Cascade Christian defeated Myrtle Point, 25-23, in the semifinals.

In pool play, the Challengers defeated North Valley (25-17), Bandon (25-11), St. Mary's (25-23), Bonanza (25-22) and Myrtle Point (25-13) and lost to Coquille (25-20).

Cascade Christian improved its season record to 13-6 with its bracket-play wins over Myrtle Point and Coquille.
