Mountain View upends cold-shooting North Medford

Patience was not a virtue for the North Medford girls basketball team Saturday. The Black Tornado, which starts three sophomores and is wrestling with the up-and-down nature of inexperience, suffered a 62-49 non-conference loss to visiting Mountain View Saturday.North's quick trigger finger and poor aim ' which was in contrast to the Cougars' shooting ' resulted in a 39-24 halftime deficit that it couldn't make up.We were not patient on offense, said Karrick, whose team fell to 4-2. We were coming down, making one pass and shooting. That doesn't give us a chance. We kind of showed our immaturity today. The Black Tornado was 19-of-73 (26 percent) from the field and 2-of-17 (12 percent) from 3-point range. We were pressing, and they were either beating us on the dribble, or they were making 5- to 10-foot jump shots, said Karrick. They shot the ball well, and we didn't do a good job of defending.North closed to within eight points several times, including 48-40, but could get no closer as Mountain View made its free throws down the stretch. For the Tornado, Kerstin Mellbye had 18 points, Kailey Bostwick tallied nine points and six assists and Mellisa Eastwold had four steals.
