Redmond drops Ashland in non-conference shootout

REDMOND ' The Christmas decorations weren't the only thing on display in Friday night's non-conference girls basketball game between Ashland and Redmond.

The Ashland Grizzlies (4-3) shot lights out in a game that featured 21 total 3-point field goals, but the Redmond Panthers scored 32 points in the third quarter alone and held on to win, 86-70.

There wasn't a whole lot of defense, but it was sure fun to watch, Ashland coach Steve Humann said. I've never really been a part of a scoring night like this.

I sure would have liked to win, but if we're going to win the SOC and make a run at state, we need to be challenged.

Ashland's Hilary Huyett poured in a game-high 29 points, including six from downtown to lead the Grizzlies. But Redmond's Darcee Perdue met the challenge head on, answering with 26 points and five treys of her own.
