Slezak-Tate help carry Crater over EP

EAGLE POINT ' The duo of Jay Slezak and Preston Tate combined for 30 points as the Crater boys basketball picked up its third Southern Oregon Conference win Tuesday, 51-46 over rival Eagle Point.

Slezak and Tate each scored 15 points, while Tim Martinen and Jacob Goodson had 13 apiece for the Eagles.

When Andy (Norum) got into foul trouble early, we needed someone to step up, said Crater head coach Matt Meunier. Slezak and Tate got real aggressive, especially on the offensive end of the court.

After a 12-12 first quarter, the Comets scored three 3-pointers in the second and went on to take a 33-22 lead at the half.

Eagle Point (0-8 SOC) fought back in the fourth quarter to make it 49-46 on Martinen's 3-pointer with less than 30 seconds to play.

Tate put the game away for Crater with two free throws. He went 4-for-4 from the line in the last 30 seconds.

Post Cole Brown, grabbed seven rebounds for Eagle Point.
