Arenas shines for Bulldog boxers
OLATHE, Kan. ' Lorenzo Arenas of the Bulldog Boxing Club used a tenacious right hand to defeat three-time national champion Devon Burrage of Cleveland in the 14-15-year-old heavyweight semifinals at the Silver Gloves Boxing Tournament Friday.
Arenas, of Medford, defeated Burrage 5-0 in a unanimous decision to advance to today's finals.
Lorenzo just dominated, Bulldog coach Jim Pedrojetti said. The kid he was fighting was left-handed, and Lorenzo just hammered him with a straight right hand over the top.
Arenas, who is now 12-4, will face Jabril Temple of Kansas City, Mo., in the finals.
Also for the Bulldogs, Sky Diamond of Gold Hill dropped a 5-0 decision to Cesar Servin of San Antonio in the second round of the 10-11-year-old, 55-pound division.
Medford's Javier Torres lost a 3-2 split-decision in the first round of the tournament in the 14-15, 156-pound division.
