Arenas captures second Silver Gloves title
OLATHE, Kan. ' Medford's Lorenzo Arenas captured his second Silver Gloves national championship with a dominating performance Saturday.
Arenas registered a three-round decision over Jabril Temple of Kansas City, Mo., in the 14-15-year-old, 201-pounds-plus super heavyweight division.
He won every round, but it was a tough fight, Bulldog Boxing Club trainer Jim Pedrojetti said. The other kid got hammered with some hard right hands, but wouldn't go down.
Arenas, a 15-year-old sophomore at North Medford High, also has a junior Golden Gloves national championship on his resume.
It was Arenas' third victory in the tournament. In the finals, Arenas' strength and reach proved too much for Temple.
It was only the third time the Bulldog Club has come away with a Silver Gloves national champion out of 10 attempts in the finals.
