St. Mary's has no trouble with Glendale

St. Mary's took another step toward its second consecutive Southern Cascade League undefeated season Saturday night.

The sixth-ranked Crusaders held visiting Glendale to just five second-half points and pulled away for a 46-18 victory at St. Mary's High.

The victory runs the Crusaders' SCL winning streak to 22 games spanning three seasons.

The Crusaders' (15-5, 10-0 SCL) final major hurdle comes Tuesday when they play second-place Cascade Christian at Superior gym. St. Mary's earlier pinned a 76-47 loss on the Challengers for their only SCL defeat.

Glendale trailed 14-9 at the end of the first quarter, but was outscored 27-8 over the next two periods.

After a while our defense took over, St. Mary's coach Tim Pflug said. In the second half our intensity was a lot better. I never expected Glendale to score only 18 points. It was one of those nights.

Senior post Michael Fiddler posted a double-double for St. Mary's with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

I was very pleased with our passing, especially when Michael (Fiddler) got double-teamed, said Pflug. He usually found another guy for an easy basket.

Greg Gradwell had five assists and Ryan Greene added seven rebounds for the Crusaders.
