Mazama avenges road loss to Phoenix

Skyline Boys

KLAMATH FALLS ' Skyline Conference-leading Mazama remembered exactly what team handed it its only league loss this year.

In a rematch against Phoenix on Tuesday, the Vikings returned the favor, 75-32, in a battle of 9-1 programs.

Our team goal was to go 14-0 in the league this year, and they took that from us, said Mazama coach Randy Rose. Our kids have never forgotten that. Both teams were 9-1 going in, and we came to play.

Did I think we would win by 43? Heck no, but I knew we could win by 15 if we did all the right things.

The third-ranked Vikings (17-4, 10-1 Skyline) held the Pirates (13-8, 9-2 Skyline) to 12 first-half points.

Mazama guard Levell Hesia, averaging 24.1 points, scored 24. Tyler Larson scored 10 of his 18 points in the first quarter, and the Vikings were out the gate on the fly with a 19-7 lead.

It was humbling, and I'm sure practice tomorrow will be pretty intense, Phoenix coach Kevin Dixon said. We just could not make a basket, and they couldn't miss.
